India is a huge market with population of over 1.2 billion (2012 data). If outbound Indian tourists were only 4.4 million in 2000, the number nearly reached 15 million in 2012. According to expectation of Indian Ministry of Tourism, there would be over 50 million Indians traveling abroad by 2020. The fact that 2.5 million Indians visit ASEAN every year makes India an important source market of the region, including Viet Nam.

Thanks to the warm relationship with Viet Nam in addition to big population and various tourist segments (from budget to high-end), India is considered a potential market of Viet Nam tourism sector. Moreover, many similarities in religion and culture would further facilitate the bilateral tourism cooperation.

The opening of direct flights between India and Viet Nam is expected to strengthen economic, cultural and tourist exchange between the two countries in the coming time
